Autism and Scouting Training Kit Portal
The Autism and Scouting Leadership Training Kit was developed by Autism Empowerment in 2013 with the direction of Autism Empowerment staff, volunteers and a Leadership Advisory Committee consisting of scouts, scouting leaders and volunteers from a variety of scouting organizations in the United States and Australia. We included educators, trainers and internationally known autism experts. Over half of the people on the Autism and Scouting Leadership Advisory committee are on the autism spectrum, including one of our co-authors.
Autism Empowerment has a core belief that if you want to get deeply engaged and help kids, teens and adults living with autism, Asperger syndrome or ASD, you need to actively include men, women and youth on the autism spectrum in the conversation. We have in the past. We do in the present. We will in the future.
This particular page on our website is to the online portal for the Autism and Scouting Leadership Training Kit.
Autism Empowerment and the Autism and Scouting Program provides information about autism, Asperger syndrome and ASD with the mission of helping make life better and more meaningful for individuals on the autism spectrum as well as their families, friends and support network. With this Autism and Scouting Leadership Training Kit, we share information that is meant to help scouting leaders and scouting volunteers better support youth on the autism spectrum who are interested in or currently involved within the scouting community.
Autism Empowerment’s Autism and Scouting Leadership Training Kit has a wide range of useful features. As not all of us learn in the same way, you will find written, audio and visual material. Part of your learning also includes connecting with other leaders in the scouting community who have been where you have before or who at the very least can “get” part of the journey that you are undertaking.
This kit isn’t just meant to be put on the shelf and left there! We want you to stay connected and engaged with Autism Empowerment and Autism and Scouting through our website, supplemental webinars and a variety of social media outlets. Please visit the following page to stay connected: Ways to Stay Connected

Physical Kit – Includes Binder, 93 page manual, Autism and Scouting Patch, DVD with over 200+ pages of additional information.
Autism Speaks provided a generous $25,000 grant which allowed for Autism Empowerment staff and volunteers to produce and distribute our first 500 kits throughout the United States. We are very grateful for these project funds and for having our grassroots 501(c)3 recognized as a valued service provider to the Autism and Asperger communities.
We are currently seeking other philanthropist and funding partners so that we may produce a 2nd run and updated version of the kit. We look forward to the information within the kit being shared far and wide, in person and online.
Autism and Scouting Leadership Kit Committee
The Autism and Scouting Leadership Kit was produced with the input of a professional Autism Empowerment Leadership Advisory Committee consisting of scouting leaders, autism authors, educators and self-advocates, including youth on the spectrum involved in scouting. Committee members live in the United States and Australia. We hope these materials will also assist with retention and recruitment of youth on the autism spectrum.

Make a donation to support the Autism and Scouting Program
We need your financial support to produce more than the first 500 kits. The Autism and Scouting Program is part of the Autism Empowerment which is 501 (c)3 non-profit organization and helps serve children, teens and adults around the world like the ones you see below:
We rely on public support to make all that we do happen. Donations can be marked to support a program or project within any of our Autism Empowerment programs. There are over 200,000 Scouting units within the USA alone including but not limited to: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts / Cub Scouts, Campfire USA, Baden Powell Service Association / BPSA, American Heritage Girls, Trail Life USA and Royal Rangers. There are also millions of scouts participating in scouting worldwide.
Your donation allows us to continue with the production, administration and shipping of these kits in order to help provide the best scouting experience possible to children, teens and adults on the autism spectrum.
Every single donation helps us continue to mission and which will bring us closer to making a difference in every Scout and their Journey in Scouting who is on the Autism Spectrum.
Please note that Autism Empowerment and the Autism and Scouting Program do not provide medical or legal advice or services. We are also not affiliated with any scouting organization. As such, the information provided in the Autism and Scouting Leadership Training Kit is not a recommendation, referral or endorsement of any specific educational or therapeutic method and does not replace advice of medical, legal or educational professionals.
The Autism and Scouting Program of Autism Empowerment is intended to serve all scouting organizations which are interested in helping better the scouting experience for youth in their units who are on the autism spectrum. You will read, see and hear real examples from scouters worldwide from varying organizations. Because each scouting organization has its own program, the information in this kit is presented in a general way with the understanding that you may need to do some adaptation in order to tie in with the rules and practices of your particular scouting organization.
