The 2013 Jefferson Awards are officially announced!
On February 14th, Karen Krejcha with Autism Empowerment received a phone call notifying her that she was 1 of 5 Washington state honorees to be awarded the 2013 Washington State Jefferson Award for public service. The Jefferson Awards honors ordinary people who do extraordinary things for others. This is the 3rd time that a Vancouver, Washington resident has been awarded this honor since 1976.
Karen is very humbled and excited about the opportunity to spread Autism Acceptance, Enrichment, Inspiration and Empowerment within both the Washington State community and hopefully the Washington D.C. and national community as well. (1 of the 5 winners will be chosen by community vote to represent the state at the National Jefferson Awards ceremony in June 2013.)
A story about Karen, Autism Empowerment and the other 4 Washington state Jefferson Award winners will be featured on Evening Magazine on King5 at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18th and available for streaming online after the show. Then residents of Washington state can vote between March 18th and March 25th at King5.com or by phone.
As Karen meets individuals along the way in this process, she truly wants to use interactions as an opportunity to help promote acceptance, advocacy and respect for the Autism Spectrum / Autistic / Asperger's / Aspie communities. She believes that however those on the autism spectrum identify themselves when talking about our differing abilities as well as our similiarities, we should be treated with respect and have the opportunity to be valuable, contributing members of society. We should have the opportunity to let our lights shine and live life to our fullest potential, whatever that might look like for each and every on of us.
She hopes to promote the mission and vision of Autism Empowerment and by discussing and promoting the organization's four foundational pillars of Accept, Enrich, Inspire and Empower nationwide. If you would like to assist her in carrying the Autism Empowerment platform forward in a positive and uplifting way nationwide, please consider voting between March 18th and March 25th. Thank you!
Also, if you happen to be in the Seattle, WA area on Tuesday, April 9th, come join the Autism Empowerment family (of which you're a part) to celebrate at a special breakfast and learn who the national nominee will be.
