Tod Thayer joined Autism Empowerment’s Board of Directors in 2017.
Tod comes to our board with a passion for service and 27 years of development experience. He currently works as the Major Gifts Officer for Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division, a charity which provides food and clothing relief to Portland families and individuals in need. Tod’s own experience began with being held back in 2nd grade. By 3rd grade, Tod was placed in special education. Tod was label developmentally delayed and noncompliant. Tod would spend three years in special education classes.
Later, in college, Tod was given several aptitude tests that measured his intellectual capacity. After being labeled deficient, non-compliant and developmentally delayed Tod was labeled a genius. Today, Tod believes no one should be labeled. Everyone is unique and should be honored and loved for who they uniquely are.
Nothing about us without us is more than a slogan. Put into practice it has the capacity to change lives. Empowerment and dignity go hand in hand.
Tod hopes to lend his personal experience with ASD and his professional fundraising and nonprofit experience to build on this incredible organization.
