Spectrums Magazine Acquisition Announcement

This announcement initially was published online in April 2016. We are keeping it on our website to share a little history about how Spectrums Magazine came to be and how Autism Empowerment first became involved.

Spectrums Magazine has been acquired by Autism Empowerment!

Making sure that robust resources are available to the autism community is very important to Spectrums Magazine and Autism Empowerment. The two groups have 5 years of experience empowering families and those living with autism throughout Portland and Southwest Washington.

When publisher Courtney Freitag announced she had to step down from publishing the quarterly print magazine, Autism Empowerment stepped in. We are excited to announce that the magazine will continue to be published as a program under Autism Empowerment’s comprehensive umbrella of programs. Look for issues to hit more than 300 locations in mid-June 2016!

Follow our announcements on social media or sign up to receive email announcements. We are thrilled that community support and belief in access to free resources makes it possible to continue serving the ASD community!

Spectrums Magazine – A bit of history, a look at the present, a focus on the future

Founded by Courtney Freitag in 2012 and published from 2013 – 2015, Spectrums Magazine grew in leaps and bounds during its first three years. In early 2016, Courtney announced that she needed to step away from producing the magazine to be able to spend more time with her family.

Karen Krejcha, Executive Director and co-founder of Autism Empowerment served on Spectrums Magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board since the magazine’s inception. She is very familiar with Courtney’s work ethic, graphic design talent, attention to detail and passion in serving and advocating for youth, adults and families in the autism community. Over the years, Karen and husband, co-founder, John Krejcha, developed a positive working relationship and friendship with Courtney. Spectrums Magazine, LLC and Autism Empowerment collaborated together in a variety of ways.

Karen and John were very excited when Courtney approached them about the possibility of Autism Empowerment acquiring the magazine and continuing to publish.  Autism Empowerment is honored to carry on Courtney’s legacy and is excited that Spectrums Magazine soon will be a nonprofit program of Autism Empowerment.

We are looking forward to the re-launch of Spectrums Magazine in mid-June 2016 for the Portland Metro and Southwest Washington area. We also have plans to expand the magazine to the Seattle area in the later part of 2016.  By the end of this year, Spectrums Magazine will have a reach from Puget Sound to Salem in supporting a culture of Acceptance of All Abilities.

As this is a business acquisition, there is a cost to purchase. The Autism Empowerment Board of Directors did our research and due diligence and believe the purchase of Spectrums Magazine is an excellent investment to further support and empower the autism community. If you were a fan of the magazine before, please consider a tax-deductible donation to help us during the start-up stages of this program. When you make a donation (see the green donate button below), you can select Spectrums Magazine and those funds will be dedicated to sustaining and growing the magazine both in print and online.
