🌸 Resources for Women and Girls on the Autism Spectrum

To all women and girls on the autism spectrum—know this: You are not alone.

Even when it feels that way, we’re here to provide information, support, and a welcoming community that sees and values you.

At Autism Empowerment and through our nonprofit publication, Spectrum Life Magazine, we embrace you—whether you identify as Autistic, a woman with autism, neurodivergent, nonbinary, or something uniquely your own. You are accepted and respected for who you are, as you are.

💜 A Place for You

This section of the Autism Empowerment website is dedicated to females and femmes of all ages on the autism spectrum—and to the families, caregivers, educators, and allies who support them. Whether you’re seeking community, clarity, or just someone who understands, we’re in this together.

When we come together as a community, we strengthen not only each other but also ourselves. LOTS of love to you! 💚❤️🧡💜

🧠 A Note About Language and Self-Disclosure

At AutismEmpowerment.org and SpectrumLife.org, you’ll notice that we use both identity-first language (e.g., “Autistic person”) and person-first language (e.g., “person with autism”). Why? Because language matters—and so does individual preference.

Many in our community, including a large number of Autistic women, proudly embrace identity-first language as part of Autistic culture and self-advocacy. Others feel more comfortable using person-first language. We honor both.

What matters most is respecting how someone chooses to identify and understanding that this may evolve over time.

If someone you care about is exploring their identity, give them space to define themselves in their own words, at their own pace. Ask their preferences. Listen to their insights. And remember: we are all layered, complex individuals—not defined or confined by any single word or label.

🗣️Another note about disclosure:

Self-identification is personal. Some people may openly share their identity as Autistic in certain spaces, while choosing to remain private or use different language in others. That’s okay.

Disclosure is a deeply personal decision that can shift based on environment, safety, and context. Each person deserves the right to choose whether, when, how, and with whom they share.

💗 Exploring Autism in Girls and Women?

If you’re wondering whether you, your daughter, a student, or someone you support might be on the autism spectrum, you’re not alone.

We recommend reading “Pink on the Spectrum” by Jennifer Cook, autistic author and neurodiversity advocate. Originally published in Autism Asperger’s Digest Magazine, this insightful piece highlights signs of autism in girls and includes a printable handout to support recognition and self-understanding.

We’ve been given permission by Jennifer and Autism Asperger Digest to share this important article with Autism Empowerment website visitors. Just click the picture below and you can read or download the entire article online which also includes a page which includes a handout to help with Recognizing Pink on the Spectrum.
